that you get an AC electrical outlet at your seat, free coffee and
pastries in the business-class car, and complimentary soft drinks
in the cafe car on some trips. Personally I wouldn't bother with
upgrading, but if you think that's worth an extra 14 or 15 bucks,
go for it.
VIA Rail Canada
Windsor-Quebec Corridor
VIA Rail's heaviest traffic occurs in the busy 725-mile central
corridor between Windsor (just across Lake Erie from Detroit)
and Quebec. On much of this track, VIA trains run at speeds
of more than 100 miles per hour. LRC (light, rapid, comfort-
able) equipment is used on all of these routes, and both standard
and VIA 1 Class services are available on all trains. Do note,
however, that one or two trains running between Montreal and
either Toronto or Quebec City feature Renaissance equipment.
For all corridor trains, I've provided a listing of routes and travel
times to help in planning an itinerary. For specific train numbers,
along with departure and arrival times, refer to a VIA timetable
online at www.viarail.ca or call VIA Rail at 1-888-VIA-RAIL, or
1-888-842-7245.
