The most scenic trip is northbound with the Hudson River on
the left side of the train most of the way between New York City
and Albany. The southbound trip covers this stretch after dark,
except during the longest days of the summer months. If you
have never seen Niagara Falls, take my advice and stop off for a
day to experience it. As with the Adirondak, the fall colors will
be spectacular if your timing is right.
By the way, many Americans still think they can enter Can-
ada with a wave of the hand. Nope. You'll need a valid passport.
If there's anything out of the ordinary about your status, check
carefully ahead of time to be sure you have the documentation
you need.
