This is Amtrak's high-speed run, with the Acela trains reaching
speeds of 150 miles per hour in some stretches and the Northeast
Regional trains running at more than 100 miles per hour. Leav-
ing New York City, the trains pass beneath the Hudson River and
emerge in New Jersey. There's occasional farmland, and you'll
cross a number of rivers, including the Delaware, but much of
this trip is through industrial areas, apartment buildings, and ten-
ements. For me, there's nothing very scenic about it, but on one
of my trips I happened to sit next to a young man from Nebraska
who was absolutely fascinated by it all. You just never know, do
you? As on the run north to Boston, Amtrak is now providing
free Wi-Fi on these trains.
