In-Depth Information
VIA 1 Cars
These upgraded coaches have 20 fewer seats than the standard
coach, which means more legroom. There are two lavatories at
one end of the car and a fairly extensive food-service area at the
opposite end where the complimentary meals are served. The
food in VIA 1 class is quite good, falling somewhere in between
coach and first-class meals served by the airlines.
You Really Can't Go Wrong
Generally speaking, no matter which train you ride, you'll find
VIA Rail's equipment to be modern, clean, and comfortable—
which amounts to very pleasurable rail travel, especially in those
stainless-steel beauties. If you want a taste of the golden age,
ride the Canadian or the Ocean. You'll find a description of their
routes, along with most of the other VIA trains, in appendix A,
“Pick a Train, Any Train,” and on VIA's Web site, www.viarail.ca.
