running in the eastern part of the United States. There are now
50 Viewliners in service, and another 25 sleepers and 25 dining
cars have been ordered. Viewliner sleeping cars are used on the
Silver Meteor and the Silver Star, which are the two trains run-
ning daily between New York City and Florida; on the Crescent,
which operates daily between New York and New Orleans; and
on the Cardinal, which runs three days a week between New York
and Chicago on a southern route through Washington, D.C., and
over the Blue Ridge. (There are no Viewliner coaches; Amfleet
equipment is used to provide coach service on those trains.)

The most obvious innovation found in the Viewliner sleep-
ers is the second row of windows, which provides viewing (and
helps to minimize the claustrophobia) for passengers in the upper
