Background color is a lighter tint of the original.
How well color elements work in a design depend in part on the lightness or darkness of
your background. Shades pop out well against white backgrounds, and tints do well
against very dark backgrounds. Use caution when using backgrounds that are closer to
mid-tones, however. How well do the shades and tints in the examples shown here pop
out?
The tints of the columns in this mock bar chart are the same in each slide, but notice how the luminance varies
depending on the background. Light tints stand out better on dark backgrounds.
