Methods of Counting Visitors
You may find that campaign traffic measured by Yahoo! Web Analytics is less than campaign traf-
fic reported by other traffic sources (e.g., a PPC/CPC engine or a directory link). This discrepancy
is due to differences in how your traffic source measures a visitor and how Yahoo! Web Analytics
measures a visitor. The traffic source counts a click on a link to your website as a visitor. However,
Yahoo! only counts a visitor if the web page is loaded in a browser and the tracking script is
executed. Whether or not the tracking script executes depends on a number of things, such as
the position of the code on the page, whether the page is fully loaded, and whether JavaScript is
turned off in the visitor's browser.
Typically, you will see that the Yahoo! Web Analytics visitor numbers will be up to 10-15 percent
lower than advertising serving systems traffic numbers.
