In-Depth Information
Timing i usually recommend that you don't save timing with the report. You may find
it annoying to have to change the period back to where you started.
the only justification for using fixed timing is if you bookmark reports specifically to
a period and folder, such as Q3 2009 results. Fixed timing can also be justified if you
report on a marketing campaign that spanned a specific period, such as a summer
campaign. the bigger question here is whether you should use the Yahoo! Web Ana-
lytics user interface to communicate such information. i rarely recommend you use
the user interface to communicate elements such as these directly, as they typically
lack a clear communicative conclusion by themselves.
Save Segment Selection Whether you choose this option depends on your report. For
example, looking back at Figure 7.27, i would hesitate to save the segment as this
is a view on the dimension search engine itself and not a demographic or similar
dimension.
Save Sorting i recommend that you save your method of sorting, since it is a big part of
presenting a report and influencing people's way of interpreting it. sorting is simply an
instant way to say a certain metric is the most important one.
Read Rights and Edit Rights the user rights are very straightforward and provide you with
an opportunity to lock in the report itself so that it stays the same and nobody changes
it. or you can choose to keep the report private so that you will be the only one able
to see it. in this scenario, where the report is private, it makes more sense to save the
report with fixed time periods and fixed segments, and they might just be draft reports
for assignments you are working on.
