Figure 7.20 Custom Report Wizard: dragging in a new metric
3.
once you have added the dimensions, you can switch to metrics by clicking on
the metrics heading in the menu tree. do the same as you did for dimensions,
expanding the metrics menu tree and dragging and dropping the desired metrics
into the metrics dashed box.
4.
When you have added all the dimensions and metrics you are interested in, click
the show Report button.
note that you cannot drag a dimension (group) menu item into a metric box, or
vice versa. if an item is grayed out, you cannot use it in the report you are generating.
the Custom Report Wizard also allows you to change the order of the report
group items or metrics just by moving them around. You can also delete a dimension or
a metric by clicking the trashcan.
Clicking the show Report button displays your custom report. And this is where
it becomes sexy, as the report generation is done on the fly and not saved for later. You
can easily play around with your data—true data porn!—and i would be surprised if
you initially have the right report and instantly find the insight you are looking for. You
should not be disappointed if you do 15 different custom report iterations to find your
next piece of golden insight.
the custom reports can be bent in all the ways a normal report can. so you can
apply any time period you want, apply comparative periods, apply segments and filters,
export the data, or use it on a dashboard.
to save your custom report for future use, simply bookmark it, which you also
need to do if you want to send it out as a scheduled email or use it on the dashboard.
