In-Depth Information
Depending on whether you have been upgraded to the newest visitor calculation
methodology, you will have one of the following two aggregation opportunities. the
latter is the newest and most correct and flexible way of doing things:
D
aily unique Visitors
W
eekly unique Visitors
M
onthly unique Visitors
or
V
isitors (custom period unique Visitor)
You cannot add up unique visitors in reports yourself; you have to use the date
selection box to do that for you. see Figure 6.11 for a visual display showing the num-
ber of unique visitors on a given day.

Figure 6.11 Daily unique visitors on October 1, 2008
this report shows you that there were 1,814 unique visitors on october 1, 2008.
if you then viewed reports for daily unique visitors on october 2, you would find that
there were 1,680; for october 3, there were 1,642 daily unique visitors.
From there we conclude that we had 5,136 unique visitors for the three-day
period october 1 to october 3 (1,814 + 1,680 + 1,642 = 5,136). however, this is not
true, and we cannot add up unique visitors in that way. the reason is that some of
those who were unique on the first day might turn up the next day and thus be a repeat
visitor when looking over the three-day period. so expect the unique visitor count to
decrease.
Figure 6.12 shows an example report of weekly unique visitors over the three-
day period.
