In-Depth Information
You can plug the SATA cables into any of these ports for the drives to work.
In case you want to use a more advanced drive setup such as a RAID config-
uration, we will cover RAID in RAID , on page 88 . For now, plug the SATA
cables into the first three SATA connectors on the motherboard.
Make sure the SATA cable and power connections are well seated and pushed
in all the way. Loose cable connections will bring instability, system glitches,
and other weird problems. After you've checked all the cables for solid
connectivity, your short- and long-term storage hookups are ready for use.
Congratulations!
Wrap-Up
We have given our awesome PC's brain both short-term and long-term mem-
ory, and we're so close to flipping the power switch to bring our creation to
life. If you're impatient, you could do that now if you have an HDMI-compliant
display (any modern flat-panel television will do) via an HDMI cable connected
from the display to the rear I/O HDMI port on the graphics card. But I prefer
to have all the parts installed before experiencing the thrill of victory or the
agony of defeat. So if you can, hold off plugging in the computer for just a
little while longer.
In the next chapter we will install a high-end graphics card that pushes real-
time image processing to the limit. We'll also take audio reproduction into
consideration. Only a few more parts to install, and we'll be able to finally
enjoy the fruits of our investment and hands-on labor.
