drives to improve drive performance and/or reliability. Depending on how the
RAID is configured, you can use it to double your file-storage throughput
(great for large video-file editing), or rely on a failover drive to keep the system
running in the event of the primary drive dying. You can also combine these
configurations for the best of both worlds, assuming you have the money and
enough drive bays to house the extra hardware.
Many types of RAID configurations exist. You can research the different kinds
on various websites, including Wikipedia,

but I'll cover the most popular
here.
RAID 0 is used to attain the fastest data read-write speeds possible. For
example, in a two-drive RAID 0 setup, the data is striped across both drives.
Doing so effectively doubles the read-write performance. The major disadvan-
tage to RAID 0 is that if even one drive fails, you lose all the data on both
drives.
