Dionne Warwick's
Oriental Chicken Wings
Dionne Warwick was one of the celebrities who performed
a star-studded musical review held after the centennial
dinner. During her rehearsal, the hotel employees who
were setting up the ballroom for the performance stopped
simultaneously to listen to the songbird, spellbound by her
talent. After her rehearsal, she retired to her suite and or-
dered the Del's Oriental Chicken Wings for a snack before
her evening performance.
3 pounds chicken wings,
disjointed
2 teaspoons salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
3 tablespoons canola oil
1 clove garlic, peeled and minced
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon Chinese
5-spice powder
1 teaspoon honey
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
½ cup soy sauce
1 teaspoon ground ginger
Place the chicken wings in a 13 9 2-inch baking
pan. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Brush on oil. In
a medium-size bowl, combine garlic, onion powder,
Chinese 5-spice powder, honey, soy sauce, ginger,
ketchup, and wine. Blend thoroughly, then pour over
wings. Bake uncovered for 50 minutes, basting fre-
quently. Remove from the oven and serve on a heated
serving platter or chafing dish.
¼ cup ketchup
½ cup dry sherry wine
Note: These chicken wings may be served as an hors
d'oeuvre. They may be prepared and cooked in ad-
vance, then wrapped in foil and frozen. To serve,
remove from freezer and open foil wrapping. Allow
chicken wings to reach room temperature, then place
in a preheated 300-degree oven for 15 minutes or until
heated through.
