The world-famous Crown Room was built as the original dining room in 1888. Whimsical
crown-shaped chandeliers, designed by frequent guest Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum, drop
from the glowing sugar-pine ceiling. Spacious windows circling the room offer some of California's
most radiant views. The Crown Room hosted the site of the largest state dinner held outside the
White House, which was given in 1970 by Richard Nixon in honor of Mexican President Gustavo
Díaz Ordaz.
The Crown Room still serves as the premier dining facility of The Del, offering an award-win-
ning Sunday Brunch, holiday celebrations, and special events.
