The original hotel entrance was the Garden Court, where graceful carriages arrived with San
Francisco's most prestigious citizens. After the fire and renovation, the Garden Court was enclosed
and now serves as one of the most elegant public meeting places in the world.
In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson hosted two Garden Court luncheons in support of the
Versailles Treaty, which ended World War I. In 1945, the official banquet honoring the opening
session of the United Nations was held in the Garden Court. Any trip to San Francisco deserves a
stop in the historic Palace Hotel, and most importantly, you must see the Garden Room.
“There are only three great storybook cities in America—
New York, San Francisco, and New Orleans.”
—Tennessee Williams, author
