the Mendocino Headlands. Situated on the scenic California coast, the Mendocino Hotel is the only
remaining hotel from the early days when Mendocino was a booming port for the logging trade.
An extensive 1975 renovation restored the hotel to its original atmosphere adding fine art,
stained glass, Oriental carpets, and period antiques. At the same time, the garden next to the hotel
was designed with a large glass dome, seating for up to 100, and a dance floor to accommodate
weddings, local theater, and concerts. Twenty five additional suites and a business and media center
were constructed on 2 acres of lush vegetation incorporating the restored Heeser House, which was
home to the original founder of the town.
Ask the front desk staff for details of the amazing collection of historical pieces in the hotel. You
may also ask to be seated in the dinning room at one of the tables said to be frequented by the ghost
of a Victorian lady. The staff will tell you their stories of her various appearances.
The Mendocino Hotel is about a 3½-hour drive north of the San Francisco or Oakland Air-
ports. More than 24 wineries in the area and the breathtaking coastal scenery may make the drive
longer—but once you arrive, you won't want to leave.
