ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Raúl J. Martín-Palma is Professor of Physics at
the Department of Applied Physics of the Uni-
versidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain) and
adjunct professor at the Pennsylvania State Uni-
versity's Department of Materials Science and
Engineering (University Park, PA, USA). He
received his MS Degree in applied physics in
1995 and his PhD in physics in 2000, both from
the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He has
been Post-Doctoral Fellow at the New Jersey
Institute of Technology (Newark, NJ, USA) and
Visiting Professor at the Pennsylvania State Uni-
versity. He has received several awards for
young scientists for his research on nanostruc-
tured materials from the Materials Research
Society (USA), European Materials Research
Society, and Spanish Society of Materials. He
serves as an associate editor of the Journal of
Nanophotonics and is a Fellow of SPIE.
Akhlesh Lakhtakia received degrees from the
Banaras Hindu University, India (BTech and
DSc), and the University of Utah, USA (MS and
PhD), in electronics engineering and electrical
engineering, respectively. He is the Charles God-
frey Binder (Endowed) Professor of Engineering
Science and Mechanics at the Pennsylvania State
University and currently serves as the editor-in-
chief of the Journal of Nanophotonics . His current
research interests include nanotechnology,
bioreplication, surface multiplasmonics, complex
materials, metamaterials, and sculptured thin
films. He is a Fellow of SPIE, the Optical Society
of America, American Physical Society, Institute
of Physics (UK), and American Association for
the Advancement of Science.
