People Design is very outreach focused. Their
portfolio work is accessible in a variety of
overlapping categories. They designed their
site by asking two questions: “What do our
prospective clients want from us?” and “What
can we give them?”
folios are usually web-based, and at least minimally interactive. Visually, they often
contain more than one way of looking at a project, highlighting details the way a
spec sheet for a product might highlight its best features.
Outreach
An outreach portfolio is client-centric. It can superficially look like a capa-
bilities portfolio, but it differs from the spec sheet concept by offering integrated
services rather than skills. It says, “This is what I can do for you .”
The client-centric portfolio is almost never sequential. Work is organized by
relationships. The portfolio is usually distinguished by fairly complex navigational
linking and overlapping categories of information. Client-centric portfolios reflect the
target audience more than the portfolio maker, and they are frequently (though cer-
tainly not always) visually conservative and technically sophisticated. They make it as
easy as possible for the viewer to navigate the space.
