LinkedIn
Daniel Tunkelang is the Head of Search Quality at LinkedIn, the world's
largest professional network on the Internet. Started in 2003, LinkedIn has
grown to more than 300 million members in over 200 countries—a growth
rate that exceeds two new members joining the service per second. LinkedIn's
massive and ever-increasing scale makes the ability to find professionally rel-
evant information and other professionals within the LinkedIn ecosystem more
critical and more data-intensive. Building and maintaining the search capability
to deliver the requisite user experience pose significant challenges given the
size of the data involved, the specificity of search entities, the disambiguation
of data, and the required relevancy of search.
Tunkelang previously served as LinkedIn's Director of Data Science, leading the
Product Data Science team. Prior to joining LinkedIn, he led a local search quality
team at Google. Before that, he was a founding employee and Chief Scientist
of Endeca, an enterprise search application vendor acquired by Oracle for
$1.1 billion.Tunkelang also worked at the IBMThomas J.Watson Research Center
and the AT&T Bell Labs. He holds twenty-two patents, a PhD in Computer
Science from Carnegie Mellon University, and BS and MS degrees from MIT.
