Chapter 4: UK/Ireland Tour Highlights
On June 1, 1992 I was woken up at 6:00 am. I wanted to start right away but I knew
I needed to have a good breakfast. I concentrated on chewing my food slowly as not to get
indigestion. After breakfast, I loaded my bicycle, paid the bill at the hotel and was given a
warm farewell from the proprietor.
Just as I was about to officially push off, a truck crashed into my bicycle…not. Ac-
tually, two co-workers from the base, Andy Coupland and Robert drove down to see me off.
I was moved when I saw them for the gesture was so genuine and thoughtful. After some
pictures were taken, we embraced to say good-bye and I pushed off. (Thank you guys!!!)
My first stop was at the Mullion Catholic Church south of Helston. There I had a
small send-off party of close friends and a blessing from Father Tim.
