In-Depth Information
I didn't bother visiting the lighthouse but just rested outside breathing in the salty
air. I stayed for at least 40 minutes and then decided to make my way to Cape Town.
About 4 kilometres out of Cape Agulhas, I met up with Janda, the lady I chatted
with just a few hours earlier. She had left a message for me with the lighthouse manager
but since I never ventured inside, I never got it. She then asked me if I wanted to celebrate
my first anniversary at Southernmost, her home which was still the southernmost private
home on the African continent (hence the name.) I thought why not? She escorted me by
car as I cycled back to Cape Agulhas to her home.

featured in a very famous South African drama, called Die Storie van Klara Viljee (The
Story of Klara Viljee.) The home was predominantly Greek in architecture and had ample
character and atmosphere. The view from my window was the ocean and the sound of the
crashing waves was the last thing I remembered before I dozed off.
The next morning, I had breakfast and signed her guest book. I then went to visit

day with their adult daughters (Cornell and Ellain) sightseeing in Hotagterklip, a fishing
village east of Agulhas. We returned to the lighthouse in Cape Agulhas where I received a
certificate commemorating my visit to the tip of Africa. Instead of leaving for Cape Town
after our visit to the lighthouse, I spent the night with the Odendaals.
