To begin with, there were the newspapers. The Herald and the Evening Post inter-
viewed me. Both interviews went well except that Herald misquoted me badly and didn't
even mention Save the Children Fund.
Again, the Power of Radio
I had an interview on Radio Algoa with Bart Forshée. The interview went really
well with the same basic message for people who cannot afford to donate money to simply
donate their time to any cause that has meaning to them…just get involved! This radio in-
terview actually did touch the hearts of a lot of people. I will elaborate on three such anec-
dotes. The first anecdote is next while the other two will follow shortly.
At one point during the interview, Bart asked me how I would compare South
Africa to the rest of the continent. To illustrate my answer, I explained that when I arrived
at my first robot in Messina, I immediately stopped at a building on my left and stared at it
for I could not believe what I was looking at. Perking Bart's curiosity, he asked me, “What
was it?” I answered, “…a Kentucky Fried Chicken!” It caught him off guard and he burst
out laughing. I explained that throughout the previous fifteen countries I cycled through, I

the station and wanted to talk to me personally. The radio station gave him my phone num-
ber at Kurt's place and upon returning home, he called. We planned to meet at the KFC
outlet on the pier in Summerstrand (an area along the beach of Port Elizabeth) within an
hour.
When I arrived, he was waiting for me. He was very polite and thanked me for
mentioning the company during my interview. We chatted for20minutes orsoand then he
wished me success for the final leg of the tour to Cape Town. He gave me a donation on
behalf of the company but it wasn't money. He presented a booklet of free meal coupons
