The Commander had me slotted in for a First Aid course and gave me advice about
contacting the Canadian embassies en route to get desert information updates. He also sug-
gested that I use my employer (NAAFI) to sponsor the tour. It was then that I decided to
plan a UK-Republic of Ireland tour for June 1992 to kick-start the World Tour's July 1 st
start.
The Birth of the UK-Republic of Ireland Promotional Tour
So now I was planning two tours which would connect in London England on July
1, 1992. The UK/Ireland tour would start from The Lizard (Cornwall) and take me through
to Wales via Dover, then to Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England. I planned my
route in order to visit NAAFI outlets and had the staff sponsor me per mile. I then had to
set up a bank account with Lloyds Bank in Helston.
I had a meeting with NAAFI's press officer, Rob Howell who was extremely help-
ful.Hedecidedtogetthecorporationinvolvedinbothadvertisingthetourinthenewsletter
as well as disseminating sponsor sheets to all intended outlets (unfortunately I was not per-
mitted to visit any outlet in Northern Ireland.)
