Using the directions the bishop gave me, I quickly found the Salesian parish. Out-

onto the property, I met the Cameroonian priest who welcomed me and gave me a room
right away. I immediately showered and changed. The Spanish priest, Father Miguel, pre-
pared me a lunch…or should I say a feast (chicken, fish, bread, pineapple, cake and pea-
nuts). This was where I spent Christmas of 1992…with the Salesian community. My pray-
ers from several nights ago were answered for I wouldn't be spending Christmas alone in
the rainforest after all. I was so lucky to come across such a beautiful parish and such kind
people.

Eve mass. It started with a nativity play led by the children and then at 10:30 the service
began. The music was vibrant and during the offertory, 12 girls carried the gifts in large
bowls on their heads as they danced in unison to the altar. After mass, Father introduced
me to the congregation and they all applauded. I was invited to a little Christmas party in
the rectory and by 12:30 a.m., I went to bed.
