Chapter 14: Equitorial Africa: Cameroon to Zaïre (The Democratic Republic of
Congo)
Once I left the border crossing, I entered the Massif de l'Adamaoua, a mountain
range with several peaks between 2000 and 4100 metres that cuts diagonally across
Cameroon in a northeast direction and which separates the English and French parts of the
country.Almost immediately, the quality ofthe road deteriorated and became one ofmy all-
time worst roads in Africa. Looking back on the day, I was amazed that I managed to keep
my sanity after cycling 82 kilometres of it.
