Scene Preparation
Before we build our i rst primitive, we need to bring the model sheet into Silo.
Referring to it on a screen next to you, or on a piece of paper, is a good start,
but nothing beats having the images in the scene as you work.
There are two ways to accomplish this; the i rst is easier for people new to Silo
and the world of 3D so we will look at that i rst.
Viewport Image
The i rst method to get your images into Silo is to bring them in as Viewport
Images. Each panel you work in is called a viewport, and in each of these
(excluding the perspective view), you can add a background image to
work with.
To bring an image into the scene, i rst select the viewport you want to use.
Let's work on the Front viewport i rst.
(Tip: Remember that pressing the spacebar will toggle the layout of Silo,
changing it from the default four-panel view to a single panel view and back
again).
Next, go to Display > Set Viewport Image ( Figure 5.1 ).
Now browse to the i le ModelSheetFront.jpg . You should see the image in
the front viewport, as in Figure 5.2.
Now repeat the process, bringing the right side view into the right
viewport.
You might i nd that the Right viewport isn't visible, but this is easily i xed.
Right click on a viewport in Silo to bring up a handy context menu.
This holds many of the frequently used items associated with what you
selected.
1.
Move down to Viewport Camera (Figure 5.3), and in the new menu
select the Right Orthographic View .
