Extrude geometry out of the model to literally pull strands of hair out of the geometry.

Let's leave the main hair for now and focus on the area around her ears. At
present, the area is completely bald, so we need some hair here that will fall
from under her helmet and onto her face.
Start with a basic shape, following the helmet and moving up over her ear
( Figure 11.7 b).
Extend this model down, tapering it to form the strand of hair (Figure 11.7c).
Finally, Extrude a smaller strand in front of the ear to give the hair some
variety ( Figure 11.7 d).
Now, bring the main hair model back and revisit it as a whole, tweaking
the shape until you are satisi ed.
