In-Depth Information
af ected by gravity, it is dii cult to get it to look correct. A quick search
online for jeans, trousers, and l ight jackets will give you all the reference
you need.)
To make life easier, hide everything except the upper body before you
begin.
The best approach to sculpting is to take things a subdivision at a time.
This way, you gradually build in the details starting with the larger areas,
and i nishing with the i ner areas.
So, the process for the jacket is as follows.
Start by pressing C to add a subdivision, and then block in the main, large
details. Focus on the big folds around her arms, as shown in Figure 9.13b.
When you are happy, apply another subdivision, and, with a smaller brush,
work in some more creases. Create some slightly smaller folds, and start to
dei ne the seam around her shoulders (Figure 9.13c).
Continue, adding more subdivisions and more details until you are
satisi ed. Remember that the straps pull around her chest, so try to add
this into the model.
Figure 9.13 shows the full progress of the jacket.
(Note: Do not go overboard with your subdivisions; we recommend four or
i ve subdivisions maximum. Any more and Silo might start to struggle once
the rest of the sculpted geometry is in the scene. Of course, this does depend
on your system.)
(Tip: Think ahead to what details will be seen when the character is eventually
rendered; if it will not be seen, do not bother adding it in!)
T rousers
Let's continue with her trousers next.
Hide the jacket, and make the trousers and associated accessories visible
again.
Follow the same process as with the jacket, adding in the folds and creases
around the legs, taking things a subdivision at a time.
Make sure you take into account the strap around her thigh; this will cause
the fabric to bunch up above it.
A s a i nal pass, why not sculpt in the seams down the sides of her legs, and
her l y and pockets ?
As you work, remember to follow the process outlined earlier.
1.
Sharp Push—Block in main details
2.
Smooth—Soften the harsh strokes
