In-Depth Information
Use the Bridge tool to seal the bottom of the boots, so her feet are
completely hidden.
Now that we have the main boot shape, we can start to add in some of the
main details, like the sole and the straps seen in Figures 9.7d-f.
(Note: Always refer to the concept artwork when building.)
There we have it, our base boots ready to be sculpted onto.
Accessories
We now have the main clothing elements in place, and ready for us to start
sculpting on to. Before we do, it is a good idea to build in the main straps that
cling to her body and hold her various accessories in place.
We need to do this because the straps and her belt will have an ef ect on how
her clothing is creased, and where the folds are. As an example, the main
straps for her rocket pack will pull on her jacket and sink into it, meaning we
will need to show this in the fabric.
Your next step is to build in these accessories, but do not go overboard. We
do not need them to be highly detailed; instead, we just need to know where
they will be, as we will upgrade them in the next chapter.
For now, begin with a simple cube and extend it until it wraps around
Jade`s thigh to act as the strap for her holster.
Once done, copy this and adjust it to i t around the gloves and the boots.
Build more straps next to act as the ones from her rocket pack.
Finally, adjust a cylinder to i t the general shape of the buckle at the front
of her chest.
Use simple cylinders and cubes, extruded, scaled, and adjusted until they i t
over the i gure.
This is all we need for now, but as an extra step, and to help us start to
visualize the i nished model, why not apply some basic colors? Refer to
Chapter 3 if you need a reminder on creating new materials.
Figure 9.8 shows the character with the main accessories added. You can also
see what a dif erence having basic colors applied has made to the look and
feel of the model.
Figure 9.9 illustrates the Material Editor once the new materials have been
created, to show you what has been added.
Notice that the body beneath the clothing is starting to pop through in
areas. Rather than try to adjust the clothing to hide this, it would be more
economical to now remove the areas we cannot see.
For this model, delete everything except her head, neck, and the front of
her torso; the rest is covered with clothing anyway so is never seen.
