In-Depth Information
Head east on the one-way Setthathirath road, passing the presidential palace and temples
you visited on day 1. Stay straight for about a kilometer until you see Wat Si Muang on
your left. The temple is sort of wedged in between two merging roads - if the road has
merged to a two-way road, turn around as you've gone too far.

A small temple with a fun story. This temple houses the city pillar - also considered a phal-
lic symbol - in the back hall, and the locals believe it dates to the Khmer period - about
1,000yearsorsoold.Whilethere'snomentionofiton-site,the Lonely Planet tellsthestory
of a pregnant woman sacrificed under the city pillar (this is admittedly disputed). Beyond
that, take in one of the largest displays of a couple's tombstone I've ever seen at a Buddhist
temple.
