Posterization aka Banding
Posterization is a tonal separation that occurs when an image has been edited
or manipulated to extremes, or if the bit depth of an image has been decreased
so much that it has a visual impact on the image quality. Posterization is
the loss of tones within an image that results in abrupt transitions between
tones that appear as stripes or “banding” in areas which should have smooth
gradations between tones. Typically extremely visible in skies, posterization
