until the highlights (the data to the right) come back into the chart and are
fully contained within the histogram chart, as seen in the next histogram
example (Fig 2).
Example 2. Well Exposed for Corresponding Scene
The image below displays a “good” histogram for the corresponding scene
because both the shadows and the highlights are fully contained within the
parameters of the histogram chart from right to left. there is detail in the
highlight values and the shadow values of the womans hair.
There are no spikes at either end of the chart, and the data clearly ends
before the edge of the histogram chart for both the highlight and shadow
information. This image spreads the tonal scale with image data ranging from
white to black and virtually every brightness value in between. All of the light
and dark levels of the scene have fallen within the dynamic range recordable
by the image sensor.
