Power Retouche Studio's Toned Photos
http://powerretouche.com/
Power Retouche makes a separate plug-in just for toning, and it delivers on
the expectations of a stand-alone. This plug-in has a wide array of presets, and
features the same strength and contrast controls found in Black and White Pro.
Nik Software's Silver Efex Pro
http://nikonsoftware.com/
One of the coolest plug-ins to be released recently is this one from Nik. A
sleek, polished interface with split views like Lightroom gives usability
to a powerful engine. This plug-in has a myriad of presets served up in a
variations-like series of thumbnails on the left side, but users can control
exposure, grain, contrast, structure and much more. For those of you with a
i lm background, Nik even of ers a notion of the infamous Zone system. Very
powerful and walk-up simple, there's a lot to like here. My i rst tests showed
no problems running in CS4 (even though the installer told me otherwise).
As mentioned before, there are hundreds of other plug-ins out there, and at
least dozens which help when it comes to black and white conversions - what
we have mentioned here are a few of our many favorites. Most plug-ins are
available as limited trials, which is a great way to test what they might mean
to your workl ow.
