Graduated Filters (G)
These work in the same way as brushed areas and with the same controls,
only with Graduated Filters you are applying a dissolving ef ect from a start to
end point. To enable these, you need only to click and drag and then adjust
the settings. In this image I've applied two - one to darken the sky and bring
back the cloud detail, and the other to brighten the foreground and add
contrast.
Convert to Grayscale
There's reason for a bit of confusion here, isn't “Grayscale” an image mode in
Photoshop? Yes, but it's also a way of describing a monochromatic image -
think of this feature as it was intended: Black and White in ACR! Unlike i lm,
shooting digitally allows a photographer to shoot in both color and black
and white; in ACR, not only can you do that, but you can revert at any point
because the conversion is only a set of instructions. If we like our conversion,
those same settings can be shared with other i les in the form of a preset with
a single mouse click!
1. Within the HSL/Grayscale palette, simply check the box “Convert to
Grayscale”.
By design this adjustment leverages ACR's “Auto” setting, “Auto” maps the
color tones in the image to present you, the user, with a nice,
