II. Advanced Black and White Conversion:
Foundation and Theory Overview
The methods of conversion available today range from simple one-step conversions
to more complex multi-step processes. Unless time and simplicity are of the utmost
importance, converting a digital color image into black and white typically requires going
beyond simply desaturating the colors or converting to grayscale. As we increase the
complexity of the conversion method, we generally gain more control and variation over
