The Tower of London
The Tower of London is just next to The London Tower Bridge, so best is to combine a visit
to both of those places!
The Tower of London was formally known as Her Majesty's Palace and Fortress. But it is
most famously known as a prison and execution site for high-profile criminals, usually ac-
cused of high treason. Enemies of the state where brought here to either be executed or to
face a miserable life in jail.
Some of the executed people: William Hastings, Anne Boleyn, Catherine Howard, Lady
Jane Grey and Robert Devereux.
Surprisingly also Elizabeth I was imprisoned in the White Tower during the reign of her sis-
ter Mary.
