FIGURE 7 Schematic diagram of profundal to supralittoral zones in balanced-fill lake-type basins
showing approximate environmental distributions of ichnofacies and idealized vertical distribution
of facies in prograding stratigraphic successions. Dominant controls in balanced-fill lake-type basins
are variably oxygenated to poorly oxygenated lake waters and substrates, fluctuating salinities and
frequently flooded and subaerially exposed substrates, especially in basin-marginal settings. Later-
ally adjacent environments along strike and along depositional dip both form vertical successions
under changing conditions. The idealized sections show vertical successions along depositional
dip. Examples are based on case studies (referenced here) and predicted assemblages (asterisks).
Abbreviations: Me , Mermia ; Sk , Skolithos ; Sc , Scoyenia ; Ce , Celliforma ; Co , Coprinisphaera ;
O-E , Octopodichnus - Entradaichnus ; N, no trace fossils. The numbers following ichnofacies abbre-
viations refer to the groupings in Table 2 . References: 1 Bromley and Asgaard (1979) , 2 Buatois et al.

may be present in stromatolitic bioherms in high-energy shorelines (e.g., Leggitt et al., 2007 ), but
their potential assignment to an ichnofacies has not yet been determined.
