Importing terrain data
Of all the different types of data you will work with in InfraWorks, perhaps the
most important is the shape of the land, or terrain (see Figure 2.11). Often, the
terrain data is the first data source you will seek out and import.

The other sources of data you work with will typically be draped over the ter-
rain, meaning that the data will adopt the elevations of the terrain. For example,
if you import an aerial photo, that photo will be draped over the terrain as
though the image were painted right on the ground. A file containing building
outlines could also be draped, with each building's elevation being adjusted to
match the terrain (see Figure 2.12).
