overview of Collaboration
Collaboration begins when someone using InfraWorks publishes their model to
InfraWorks 360. At this time, a copy of the model is uploaded to the InfraWorks 360
service and resides there in the cloud. That model is assigned to a group, and anyone
invited to that group will have access to the model. Each member of the group can
download a copy of the model locally and make changes to the local copy using
InfraWorks. If their roles allow it, they can also publish those changes back to
the online version of the model. As other members of the group download fresh
copies of the model, those changes will be included. The act of transferring data
so that the online version of a model matches a given local version is known
as synchronization . So, the collaboration takes place because each member of
the group is repeatedly synchronizing the cloud version of the model with their
local version.
Infraworks 360 groups
Groups are the key to sharing and collaboration using InfraWorks 360. When you
publish a model to InfraWorks 360 (discussed a little later), it must be published
to a group. Then, you share that model with others by inviting them to join that
group. You can create groups in an InfraWorks 360 account only if you are an
Admin for that account (discussed a bit later).
To create a group, you begin by clicking Administer Groups on the Start Page,
as shown in Figure 8.1.
fIgure 8.1 Accessing the Administer Groups feature
This will open the Administer Groups dialog where you can create new groups
and manage the users who are invited to them. To create a new group, you click
Add Group and then simply enter a name and description in the Add Group dia-
log (see Figure 8.2).
