fIgure 7.29 Shadows passing through an area of the model
17. Change the Day Of Year value to 270 and play the animation.
Notice how the wind turbine shadows now pass across the building
faces. Based on this, the effects of the turbine shadows on the build-
ings will be especially harsh in late September.
Since there is no change to the model, there is no “end” proposal for this exer-
cise as you have seen in other exercises. However, you can use the Storyboard
Library (upper-right corner icon of the Storyboard panel) to open the Wind
Turbine Light Analysis - Complete storyboard and view the result of successfully
creating the storyboard.
now You know
With great designs come great questions. If you are going to work in the world of presenting
your design ideas to an audience, expect to be asked a lot of questions and expect a portion
of your performance to be measured by how well you answer those questions. After working
through this chapter, you know that InfraWorks has some really powerful ways to answer ques-
tions about your design. You are now armed with the measuring tools to provide information
about distances in your model. These could be distances between key features or path distances
perhaps showing how far it is to walk or drive from one point to another. You can apply visibility
analysis using the Select Visible and Range Finder tools to analyze a field of view and draw
conclusions about what can be seen. You can also provide answers about the terrain through
the Terrain Statistics command and terrain themes. With these tools you can tell a story about
the cost and effort required to reshape the land and about the “performance” of the terrain
with regard to elevation, slope, and aspect. With feature themes, you can use colors to tell
stories about nearly every object type in an InfraWorks model. And finally, by using the Sun
& Sky asset card and the Storyboard panel, you can perform sunlight and shadow analyses.
With an understanding of all of these tools, you are now ready to answer many of the types of
questions you will be asked about the designs that you develop in InfraWorks.
