In-Depth Information
realistic water When this feature is enabled, InfraWorks will animate the
water surface to make it appear as though waves are moving across it. It is a
stunning effect (see Figure 6.7), but, as with the other options, it requires more
computing power and will impact performance.
shadows Shadows make the model more realistic (see Figure 6.7) and have
practical purposes as well. Shadow studies are often done to determine how
large structures such as buildings or bridges will affect surrounding areas. You
can use this setting to enable or disable shadows in the model.
Ambient occlusion Quality As discussed in the previous section, ambient
occlusion is a way of simulating the interaction of light among multiple objects
in the model. The higher the quality, the more realistic the model will appear.
For this setting you can choose either High or Low.
show Backfaces Every surface in InfraWorks has a front and a back. You can
navigate beneath the terrain and look up to see the backfaces of the terrain, or
you can navigate inside a building so that you are looking through the back-
faces of the building. If the Show Backfaces setting is turned off, those faces
will simply disappear when you navigate to those locations. If you don't intend
to view the model from behind any backfaces, you can turn this setting off and
save some computing power for other purposes. However, in some cases you
may want this feature enabled. For example, if you are visualizing pipes or other
underground items, it is sometimes easier to understand what you are seeing
when the underside of the terrain is visible (see Figure 6.8).
