accommodate a wide spectrum of computer power, and you can adjust those set-
tings to favor model size, navigation performance, or visual quality, depending
on what you need at the time.
The settings you need are in the Application Options dialog, accessed by
first clicking the Settings And Utilities icon on the main toolbar and then the
Application Options icon on the Settings And Utilities toolbar. The settings that
affect visualization are within two sections on this dialog: Model Generation and
3D Graphics. These settings are product settings, meaning they span across pro-
posals and models.
Model generation settings
As you know, an InfraWorks model consists of many small components includ-
ing 3D models, roads, coverages, buildings, and so on. One of the things
InfraWorks is able to do to optimize performance is control the “effort” that
goes into generating those models and the amount of detail they are generated
with. The following are each of the settings in the Model Generation section
(see Figure 6.1) that pertain to visualization.

generator threads This controls the number of CPU threads that InfraWorks
will use to generate the model. The default is all of them, but you can free up some
threads to do other things if you reduce the number in InfraWorks. Of course, that
will cause model generation to happen more slowly. If possible, close other programs
when using InfraWorks and dedicate all your available threads to InfraWorks.
