exercise 5.2: Create a Material style with Color
In this exercise you are going to create a material style to represent new asphalt
pavement. The material style will utilize a solid black color.
If you are continuing from the previous exercise, you can skip to step 3.
Otherwise, if you haven't already done so, go to the topic's web page at www
.sybex.com/go/infraworksessentials and download the files for Chapter
5. Unzip the files to the correct location on your hard drive according to the
instructions in the introduction.
1. If it is not already open, launch InfraWorks.
2. On the Start Page, click Open and browse to C:\InfraWorks Essentials\
Chapter 05\ . Click Ch05 Bimsville Bypass.sqlite and click Open.
3. In the top-right corner of your screen, click the Proposals drop-down
list and select Ex_5_2.
4. If the Style Palette is not visible, click Style Palette on the Manage
toolbar.
5. Click the Material tab of the Style Palette. Select Material/Parking
Lot in the drop-down list at the top.
6. Click the Add button in the Style Editing section at the bottom of the
Style Palette.
7. In the Define New Material dialog, verify that Color is selected under
Effect Definition.
8. Click the ellipsis button to the right of Uri.
9. In the Select A Color dialog, click the black color swatch in the top-
left corner. The Red, Green, Blue, and Alpha Channel values should
read 0, 0, 0, and 255, respectively.
10. Click OK twice to dismiss both dialogs and return to the Style Palette.
You should see a new material in the Style Palette with the generic
name Material.
11. Type Solid Black Asphalt as the name of the new style and press Enter.
12. Set the icon display to Icon List, as shown previously in FigureĀ 5.4.
The Style Palette should now appear as shown in FigureĀ 5.9 with
the new style visible.
