fIgure 5.7
A material style that utilizes a texture has been applied to an object in the
model.
Creating a Material style
To create a material style, you first open the Style Palette and click the Material
tab. To create a style from scratch, you click the green plus sign in the Style
Editing section at the bottom of the Style Palette. This will open the Define
New Material dialog (see Figure 5.8). The first choice you will need to make is
whether the material is going to be based on a color or a texture. If you select
Texture and click the ellipsis button, a browse dialog will open and you can
select an image file to load (supported image types are PNG, JPG, and DDS).
Once you have selected the image file, you then configure the style by provid-
ing the Width and Height values under Texture Settings (as shown previously in
Figure 5.7). These dimensions establish the scale of the texture and are impor-
tant to getting the right look for the texture in the drawing. For example, if your
texture is an image of a brick pattern, you would want to enter the exact dimen-
sions that the image represents. Otherwise, the individual bricks would appear
too large or too small in the model.
