In-Depth Information
You have created a tree line along the eastern edge of the indus-
trial park (see Figure 4.10), which will serve as a visual barrier or
perhaps a wind barrier to prevent drifting of snow.
fIgure 4.10 A new tree line is created.
what's with the Height?
You may have noticed that although you set the tree height to 200 (60) in
step 18, the individual trees were much shorter than that. You may also notice
that when you double-click a tree to select them all, a large bounding box
encompasses the entire row of trees. The value you are providing is the height
of the bounding box. The bottom of the bounding box is located roughly at the
bottom of the lowest tree, and the top is at the top of the highest tree. So, if
there is an elevation difference along the row of trees, this distance will grow.
In a production situation, you wouldn't provide a specific number here—you
would set the height visually or by trial and error until you got the tree heights
you wanted. For the purpose of an exercise in a book, it's nice and clean and
simple to just have you select a specific number.
