working with trees
Trees are a great way to spruce up your model (pun intended) and make it seem
more real and interesting. Trees can be created in two configurations. The first is
called a row and configures the trees along a linear path. This application is great
for a tree line along the edge of a developed property, for example. The second con-
figuration is called a stand , and it configures the trees within a closed shape. For
both configurations, you select a tree style, and InfraWorks will automatically vary
the height and spacing of the trees to make the row or stand seem more realistic.
Creating trees
The Row of Trees or Stand of Trees commands are found with the other
InfraWorks design tools, as shown in FigureĀ 4.7. As with the other design com-
mands, on the main toolbar you will need to first click the InfraWorks Home
icon and then click the Create icon. When you launch either command, the
Select Draw Style asset card will open, and 3D Model will be your only available
style type. After selecting a style, you then click a series of points in the drawing
to define the path of a tree line for a row or the perimeter of an area for a stand.
Consistent with other commands, you double-click the last point to indicate you
are finished with the command. If you want to create a single tree, you can use
either command and simply double-click one point.
editing Individual trees
Just like all other InfraWorks features, you'll have plenty of editing tools once
you create trees in your model. You can edit individual trees in a row or a stand,
or you can edit the whole group of trees at once. It is recommended that you
perform edits to the entire row or stand first because any individual edits that
you make will be overridden if you then make changes to the whole group.
To edit an individual tree, simply click the tree as you would any other object.
You will be presented with all of the gizmos listed here:
the Move gizmo The move gizmo has four parts: three axis arrows (x, y, and z)
and a square in the x-y plane. If you click and drag an arrow, you will move the tree
along that axis. If you click and drag the square, you will move the tree in the x-y
plane only.
