In-Depth Information
the Height gizmo The height gizmo can be dragged up and down to set the
height of the 3D model used to represent the point of interest. The behavior
more closely resembles a scale function than a height function. The size of the
entire model, not just its height, will be changed as you move this gizmo.
The editing behavior as it relates to terrain elevation is a bit different with points
of interest than what you have seen with other objects. Points of interest initially
insert on the terrain surface but do not attempt to conform to the terrain eleva-
tions when you move them. Instead, a point of interest will hold its initial elevation,
and any necessary adjustments will have to be made manually. For example, if you
have moved a point of interest and it is now hovering above the ground surface or
buried beneath it, you will have to manually edit the elevation to place it back on
the ground surface.
exercise 4.1: work with Points of Interest
In this exercise you are going to create a point of interest at the location where
the main street leading into Bimsville crosses the town boundary. You will use a
tooltip to share information with anyone viewing the model.
Go to the topic's web page at www.sybex.com/go/infraworksessentials and
download the files for Chapter 4. Unzip the files to the correct location on your
hard drive according to the instructions in the introduction.
1. If it is not already open, launch Autodesk® InfraWorks™.
2. On the Start Page, click Open and browse to C:\InfraWorks
Essentials\Chapter 04\ . Click Ch04 Bimsville Bypass.sqlite
and click Open.
3. In the top-right corner of your screen, click the Proposals drop-down
list and select Ex_4_1.
4. Click Bookmarks on the Utility Bar.
5. Click Town Limits in the Bookmarks panel.
You will be looking at a view of the main road leading into Bimsville
at a location where it crosses the town limits. The idea is to provide
a marker and tooltip that will appear when a user gets close to this
location.
6. On the main toolbar, if the InfraWorks toolbar is not visible, click the
InfraWorks Home icon.
7. If the Create toolbar is not visible on the side of your screen, click the
Create icon on the InfraWorks toolbar.
