extending the storage life (Wu and Salunkhe, 1972). Burg
(1975) reported that 'Haden' mangoes ripened four times
slower at 150 mmHg than in air. These fruits ripened nor-
mally after storage, had less decay, and had a higher per-
centage of acceptable fruits. Mangoes (cv. 'O Krong') pre-
cooled at 15 C and, waxed, were maintained at 60-100 mm
Hg at 13 C for up to 4 weeks; fruit ripened normally without
adverse effect on quality (Ilangantileke and Salocke, 1989).
Low-pressure or hypobaric storage
Hypobaric or low-pressure storage is a type of CA stor-
age with emphasis on reducing the pressure exerted on the
storage material. This method not only reduces the O 2 con-
centration but also increases the diffusion of ethylene by
