SUMMARY
Owing to their unique flavors, characteristics, and health
benefits, both longan and carambola have great potential
in the market. The fruits can be marketed as fresh, fresh-
cut products, or various processed products. Postharvest
handling systems, especially precooling and proper tem-
perature management, would prevent losses and maintain
quality of fruits. More research is still needed in many areas
such as product and process development, packaging, inno-
vative quarantine treatment, and decay prevention methods
as well as health benefit studies.
