An example in Figure 2.6 shows the edge-enhanced image using
fuzzy and intuitionistic fuzzy sets.
5. Morphology : Morphology is a non-linear image processing technique
that deals with the shape of the image features. Fuzzy mathematical
morphology is almost a newly developed morphology by Bloch and
Maitre [4] where fuzzy techniques are used. Later on, intuitionis-
tic fuzzy concepts are also used to obtain better results. When in
some cases fuzzy methods do not perform well, intuitionistic fuzzy
methods may be useful as intuitionistic fuzzy set considers more
uncertainty than fuzzy set. Figure 2.7 shows an example where edge
detection is performed using morphology utilizing dilation and
erosion.
2.8 Summary
In this chapter, an attempt has been made to discuss medical image pro-
cessing and the use of fuzzy and advanced fuzzy set theories (intuitionis-
tic fuzzy and Type II fuzzy sets) in medical image processing. The reason
